The Hawkes Bay Young Orchardist Group has been started up again with a new group of committee members; after more than a year of inactivity. The first event was held on Thursday 22nd of July, hosted by N.P. Vesty Ltd with a great turnout. The afternoon included about an hour of discussion comparing pruning techniques for Envy trees on 793 and M9 rootstocks. A big thanks to Horticentre for providing some hats and beanies as spot prizes, and also two pairs of secateurs that were given out to people who were brave enough to prune a tree in front of the group. Also a big thanks goes to Farmlands for providing a BBQ and food afterwards which gave everyone a chance to network with some new people involved in the industry.
