Scholarships & funding

Hawke’s Bay Fruitgrowers’ Association established a Charitable Trust in July 2000 for the advancement of the fruit-growing industry in Hawke’s Bay through educational initiatives.

Initial funding of the Trust was provided by the late AB Smith. This legacy has enabled the Trust to provide scholarships and grants to local students studying horticulture and related subjects at Universities, Institutes of Technology, or at approved horticultural industry training organisations.

Scholarships

This year, Hawke’s Bay Fruitgrowers’ Charitable Trust in conjunction with the Horticentre Trust will provide funding towards three horticulture scholarship courses:

Horticulture Level 3  or 4 Scholarships
Available for Fruit Production and Post Harvest trainees working towards Level 3 or Level 4 NZ Certificate in Horticulture Production, Apprenticeships in Horticulture (Level 4) or the NZ Certificate in CPIOS. Applicants should be currently employed in the fruit industry and working in the pipfruit, summerfruit or kiwifruit sector.

Horticulture Diploma Scholarships
Available for students studying towards a Diploma in Horticulture.

Horticulture Degree Scholarships
Available for those studying towards a Degree or higher-level qualification.

The scholarships are provided to encourage individuals domiciled in Hawke’s Bay to undertake further education or training in horticulture subjects relevant to pipfruit, summerfruit and kiwifruit. Studies can be through a University, Polytech or with other NZQA accredited providers. It is hoped that scholarship recipients will ultimately seek employment in Hawke’s Bay and pass on the benefits of their learning to the Hawke’s Bay community.

Applications for scholarships will be open from 14th October through until 30 November.
