Applications have closed for the 2021 Hawke’s Bay Young Fruit Grower of the Year Competition.
The competition will be held at the Tomoana Showgrounds on the 3rd June.
During the course of the day, the eight finalists will be tested on a range of theoretical and practical modules. Contestants will have 25 minutes to complete the tasks to the best of their ability. Spectators will also have an opportunity to try the challenges!
At 1pm, the contestants will participate in the Bostocks Hortisports event – a series of fun horticultural challenges.
The Hurford Parker Tug of War Challenge is the last event for the day and is open to all businesses. This event will start at 3:30pm. To download the Tug of War Entry Form click here. Entries close 31 May.
The following evening a formal Awards Dinner is held at the Toitoi Arts & Events Centre, where contestants participate in a speech competition and the overall winner announced. Ticket sales close on 24 May. To book your dinner tickets visit here.
The Hawke’s Bay competition is one of six regional heats. The winners of the regional heats continue on to the New Zealand Young Fruit Grower final and then contest for the Young Grower of the Year title and their share of $12,000 worth of prizes.
